Teaching Software Project Management using Simulations - The AMEISE Environment: from Concepts to Class Room Experience
نویسندگان
چکیده
1. Objectives The AMEISE (A Media Education Initiative for Software Engineering) approach focuses on the simulation of software project management processes. Based on Stuttgart University's SESAM (Software Engineering Simulation by Animated Models) [1], the AMEISE tool-set allows for repeatedly experiencing the complexity of software project management within a game-like simulation environment [2, 3, 4]. The tutorial participants have the opportunity to run an AMEISE simulation using the socalled quality assurance (QA) simulation model. Based on the description of the required project (simulation goals, available resources), the participants act as a technical project manager who determines the simulated development process by adequate staffing and allocating software development as well as quality assurance tasks. After the simulation process, the success of each project is being analyzed using the AMEISE self-assessment feature. Participants should get new perspectives within the area of software engineering education. In more detail, the objectives are: to become acquainted with AMEISE as a simulation environment for (software) project management, to experience “exercising” software engineering project management with AMEISE, to be able to evaluate the prospective usage of AMEISE for own educational purposes.

AMEISE – A Media Education Initiative for Software Engineering Concepts, the Environment and Initial Experiences
An experience-dominated subject like software project management cannot be learned by merely attending lectures. Additional labs, however, even with only modest real-life projects, call for substantial effort to be spent by the instructors as well as by the partaking students. The AMEISE approach provides an efficient and effective education alternative. Based on Stuttgart University’s SESAM, i...

There has been a recent development and explosion of interest among academicians across a wide range of disciplines in the use of virtual Class room. Utilization of the virtual class room as a laboratory experimentation for teaching and learning has increased significantly in recent years as development tools for web based applications have become easier to use and computers have become more ca...

The use of Information technology (IT) tools in teaching provides innovative learning environments that increases students’ interaction with instructor and among students themselves. It is expected that the use of technology to enhance student learning experience. In this paper, I report my experience in teaching software project management course using different technologies. A survey was cond...
متن کاملTeaching an Object-Oriented Software Development Lifecycle in Undergraduate Software Engineering Education
In some cases, real-world application of software engineering concepts does not effectively map with current undergraduate curriculums. Typically, a student’s first “handson” experience working on large-scale software development projects is via an intern position or their first full-time position. However, prior exposure to the corporate project environment would greatly improve a student’s pe...
متن کاملA Case-Study on Teaching Undergraduate-Level Software Engineering Course Using Inverted-Classroom, Large-Group, Real-Client and Studio-Based Instruction Model
We present a case-study on teaching an undergraduate level course on Software Engineering (second year and fifth semester of bachelors program in Computer Science) at a State University (New Delhi, India) using a novel teaching instruction model. Our approach has four main elements: inverted or flipped classroom, studio-based learning, real-client projects and deployment, large team and peer ev...
